Rt. Rev. V. Selvanathar, the Archbishop of Pondicherry-Cuddalore, requested the Servants of Charity (Guanellians) to begin a new house for poor and orphan boys in Cuddalore. The dream was finally fulfilled and Don Guanella Boys Home was inaugurated on 29th July 1996. It is in this historical town of Cuddalore that the congregation of Servants of Charity began its first charitable work at the Boys Home, at Samupillai Nagar, with 23 boys as a tiny mustard seed.
The new building’s foundation stone was laid and blessed by His Grace, Dr. Michael Augustine on July 3, 1998, on the feast of St. Thomas, the Apostle of India. The new building of Don Guanella Boys Home was inaugurated by very Rev. Fr. Nino Minetti, the superior general. At present, the Don Guanella Boys home operates, in the footprints of St. Louis Guanella, with 125 boys.
